The Haven in Wagga Wagga has received accreditation to provide residential aged care for another three years.
This follows a thorough site audit carried out by assessors from the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency at the end of June. The auditors looked at 44 areas of operation and found The Haven to be fully compliant.
Accreditation is about ensuring residential aged care homes meet a set of quality standards relating to the care provided to residents. These are set by the Australian Government.
All residential aged care homes must be accredited in order to receive funding from the Australian Government through residential care subsidies. Accreditation is not a one-off event. Once a residential aged care home is accredited, the approved provider is required to maintain ongoing compliance with the legislated standards of care for residents and to undertake continuous improvement.
In between accreditation site audits, residential aged care homes receive ongoing monitoring of compliance and continuous improvement through support contacts and review audits.
Every residential aged care home also receives at least one unannounced visit each year.
The Haven operates the 60 bed Wendy Hucker Nursing Home, The Nan Roberts Community Hostel (caring for 67 residents), the 21 bed Fred Loudon Lodge (dementia unit), 16 community care places and self care independent units.
